If you can't trust yourself, who can you trust? One night, in the middle of a terrible storm, Cass returns home alone and her husband asks her not to cross the road in the forest, because that road is dangerous when a terrible storm rages. But despite the fact that she promises him that she won't, she doesn't want to travel 40 minutes, so she cuts through the forest. There, on the deserted and eerie rural road, he sees a stopped car, with a woman sitting in it, alone. Kes assumes the woman is waiting for someone, so he moves on. But the next day he learns that the woman was later killed and he cannot come to terms with that. She tries to put the horrible crime out of her head; what could he do, realistically? It is a dangerous road for a woman, and in the midst of a storm. Her husband would be furious if he found out that she had broken her promise. And she probably would have been hurt too if she had stopped to help the woman. But since then she persistently forgets some things: where she parked her car, did she take a pill, what is the code for the alarm, why did she order a baby carriage when she doesn't have a baby? The only thing he can't forget is that woman, the woman who might have saved him, and the terrible, unbearable pangs of conscience. And he can't understand why he keeps getting the feeling that someone is secretly watching...
