Operil 0.5 mg/ml nasal spray is a solution intended only for adults and children over seven years of age. Operil contains oxymetazoline, which is used as a nasal decongestant. By narrowing the arterioles, it reduces swelling of the nasal mucosa and secretion from the nose. In this way, breathing through the nose is facilitated, the nasal and paranasal cavities (sinuses) and the Eustachian tube are opened, and the accompanying symptoms of the cold are alleviated. It shortens the duration of the common cold by one third (two days) in patients over 12 years old. Operil begins to act after a few minutes, and its action lasts up to 12 hours. Oxymetazoline also has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects. Operil has an antiviral effect on certain viruses that mainly cause respiratory diseases. Operil is used for: - acute sneezing during a cold, - sneezing due to allergies, - rhinosinusitis, - inflammation of the middle ear (otitis media), to improve the function of the Eustachian tube.
