On average, 23 people a year go missing from ships during cruises. Usually, such people write them off as victims of accidents or suicide by jumping from a ship. But what if they are not? Five years ago, Martin Schwartz, a police psychologist, lost his wife and son. They were on vacation on a boat, on a cruise, when the two simply disappeared. The weak investigation failed to find out what happened - the coroner concluded that it was a case of murder and suicide. And that conclusion has haunted Martin ever since, making his life miserable. But then he is contacted by an elderly woman, a writer, who claims to have information about what happened and insists that he board the Sultan of the Seas immediately. She explains to him that his wife and son are not the only such couple to have disappeared. She tells him that just a few months ago, another mother and her daughter disappeared. The writer is convinced that there is a serial killer on board. But when the missing daughter suddenly appears – with Martin's missing son's teddy bear in hand – it becomes apparent that the truth may be much, much scarier…
