The thyroid gland plays a central role in the control of metabolism. Dysfunction can affect the whole body. To detect hyper- or hypofunctions, especially the level of thyrotropin, thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) is a reliable indicator. TSH is secreted by the pituitary gland and stimulates the thyroid gland to produce T3 and T4 hormones. Whenever the concentration of thyroid hormones T3 and T4 falls, the level of TSH rises. Symptoms of hypothyroidism include, but are not limited to, fatigue, lethargy, feeling cold, constipation, muscle cramps, or weight gain. TSH chEcK© assesses whether TSH levels are elevated. The normal concentration of TSH ranges from 0.4 µIU/ml to 4.5 µIU/ml while a value of >5 µIU/ml indicates thyroid hypofunction. If the test shows a positive result, it can be assumed that the concentration of TSH is above normal values, which indicates hypofunction of the thyroid gland. The definitive diagnosis should be confirmed by a doctor. As an immunochromatographic rapid self-test, TSh CHECK© detects an elevated TSH level in a whole blood sample. If the concentration of TSH is increased, it binds the antibodies immobilized on the test membrane. Visualization takes place through the additional binding of colloidal gold labeled anti-TSH-antibodies that form a visible red test line (T-line). Furthermore, the test includes a built-in control system implemented with a red control line (Cline). The S-line confirms a sufficient amount of sample volume as well as correct performance of the test.
