Mucoplant ivy syrup: – dissolves the secretion – facilitates expectoration (helps the excretion of secretions from the airways) The extract responsible for the action is obtained from ivy leaves. They contain 2.5-6% triterpene saponins, which are secondary plant substances. They are: heracoside C and B, as well as alpha hederin, which play an important role in terms of action. The ivy leaf contains: flavonoids, caffeic acid derivatives and essential oils. The substances contained in the ivy extract have an expectorant effect based on secretolysis and mucolysis. Irritation of the parasympathetic afferent nerve fibers in the stomach leads to reflex stimulation of the goblet cells in the bronchi. As a result of this, there is an increased production of secretion and a decrease in the viscosity of the mucus (secretolysis). On the other hand, the surface tension of the thick mucus decreases and thus it is diluted (mucolysis). By reducing the viscosity of the mucus, it becomes thinner and can be coughed up more easily. Alpha hederin by stimulation of beta-2-adrenergic receptors in the lungs leads to relaxation of bronchial muscles (bronchospasmolysis).
