Peony root extract has a high antioxidant activity, thanks to the presence of active biomolecules such as paeoniflorin, proanthocyanidins and flavonoids, protecting skin cells from possible environmental damage. Protects epidermal cells from DNA damage caused by ultraviolet B (UVB) radiation. An eight-week clinical study with 20 volunteers resulted in a statistically drastic reduction in facial wrinkles. Polysaccharides found in peony bark and root have been shown to stimulate immune cells.
