Reviscon 1.0% / Reviscon Plus 1.6% / Reviscon Mono 2.0% is for the treatment of pain and loss of flexibility due to osteoarthritis in the joints. It is recommended for patients who have not responded adequately to conservative therapy and analgesics.
• At what degrees of osteoarthritis are HA injections recommended?
Hyaluronic acid injections are recommended for Kellgren-Lawrence class II and III osteoarthritis.
• How does Reviscon work?
Reviscon acts as a lubricant and shock absorber in the joints allowing the joints to work efficiently. In addition, Reviscon treatment helps to stimulate the synthesis of new hyaluronic acid. Working as a filter, it allows the passage of cells needed by the cartilage, synovium and synovial fluid and prevents the infiltration of inflammatory cells. With its shock-absorbing effect, Reviscon smoothes the force of sudden movement, preserves the joint and helps protect and build the articular cartilage and synovial membrane. In addition, there are several clinically proven effects of intra-articular injections of hyaluronic acid.
• How soon after treatment with Reviscon will the patient experience pain relief?
The patient will experience pain relief within a few days of treatment. The patient should not put weight on the knee joint for two days after receiving Reviscon and should avoid activities such as jogging, football, tennis, weight lifting or prolonged standing. Temporary pain or swelling of the knee joint may occur after receiving a hyaluronic acid injection.
• How long will pain relief last after Reviscon treatment?
The patient can expect to experience pain relief from Reviscon treatment in 6-9 months. This effect may last several months after the recommended course of treatment with intra-articular injections.
• How is the Reviscon treatment administered and can the treatment be repeated?
Reviscon 1% is given five injections at an interval of one week; Reviscon Plus 1.6% is three injections at an interval of one week; and Reviscon Mono 2% is a single injection. Depending on the patient's condition and the doctor's suggestion, these treatments may be repeated.
• How often can a patient receive Reviscon injections?
The effectiveness of Reviscon in reducing pain lasts for 6 to 9 months. As recommended, after 6 months, the patient should receive the injections again.
