Everyone knows about the well-documented disaster with the Titanic, but few are familiar with one of the greatest maritime tragedies... World War II is coming to an end and thousands of refugees are desperately heading for the arms of freedom; many of them with hidden secrets... Among them are Joanna, Emilia, Florian, whose paths cross on the way to the "Wilhelm Gustlov", a ship that promises salvation. United by the constraints of circumstance, the three youths draw strength and courage from each other, but mutual trust is tested with each subsequent step on the road to safety. And just when it seems to them that freedom is within reach, an unimaginable tragedy occurs. The overloaded ship, intended for 1,800 passengers and loaded with over 10,000 people, begins to sink and all of them, adults and children, rich and poor, have to fight for the same thing: for survival, for their lives. Told from different perspectives, this moving novel is inspired by a true tragedy. The author reveals to us victims of the terrible war about whom incredibly few people know and proves that humanity and love can win even in the darkest circumstances.
